Individuals with disabilities aren’t always given the same options or opportunities as others, but U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer is trying to change that.
Schumer, D-NY, is supporting legislation that would give people with disabilities the option to receive care from their home. The senator visited Upstate Cerebral Palsy in Utica on Thursday, to discuss the details of the Disability Integration Act of 2015.
Schumer said individuals with disabilities who may need help with everyday tasks like eating, dressing or taking medicine aren’t given the option to live independently.
According to Schumer, this legislation could drastically improve the lives of those who receive services at facilities like UCP.
