The legislation gives individuals with disabilities the option to live more independently and in their own home rather than in an institutional facility away from family and friends, according to a news release.
Individuals with disabilities who might need help with everyday tasks such as eating, dressing and bathing don’t always get to live where they choose.
But that could change.
At a news conference Thursday at United Cerebral Palsy, U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., called on Congress to pass legislation called the Disability Integration Act of 2015.
