Senator Cory Gardner (R) of Colorado is an initial sponsor of the re-introduction of the Disability Integration Act of 2019 (S. 117) on January 15, 2019.
“This legislation is a testament to the strong power of the coalition and the dialogue between constituents and lawmakers” Gardner said, “Individuals who need assistance with the tasks of daily living should be able to determine what setting best suits their needs and not be forced into an institutional setting and that is what this legislation represents.” Gardner went on to make it clear this was not a symbolic move, but a real effort to make community living a right for all people with disabilities in his closing remarks at the re-introduction, “I hope we will see success with this legislation, not just introduction but success with passage of the legislation.”
