Recalling the groundbreaking ‘Americans with Disabilities Act’ of 1990, Senator Chuck Schumer proposed a new federal law Monday that he says will make an even better nation for people living with disabilities.
Before a crowd of clients and caretakers at the Wildwood School, Schumer unveiled the “Disability Integration Act.” The legislation, which he plans to introduce during the current term in Washington, would require that any disabled individual who is approved for institutional care also be offered the option of receiving care at home or any other location they want, such as their parents’ home or a group living facility.
